Apostille vs attestation — the difference in plain terms

An apostille is a single certificate that validates a document between countries that are part of the Hague Apostille Convention. Attestation is a chain of stamps — from the issuing country's authorities, the UAE embassy, and finally the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs — that makes a foreign document legally usable inside the UAE.

The UAE is not part of the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostille on its own is not valid for documents used here. Whatever country your document is from, it needs the full attestation chain ending with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs — that is the route every UAE authority accepts. So don't pay for an apostille alone expecting it to work in the UAE.

This tool gives general guidance, not legal advice. Requirements change and acceptance is decided case by case by the receiving UAE authority. Message us with your specific document and we'll confirm exactly what it needs.
