How does the attestation process work?
For a foreign document coming into the UAE, the chain runs through four steps:
- Chamber of Commerce — verification in the country of origin, with notarisation where required.
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs (home country) — review and attestation in the issuing country.
- UAE Embassy attestation — the UAE mission in that country confirms the document.
- MOFA attestation in the UAE — the final stamp that makes it valid for use here.

Mainland or free zone — does it change the process?
For documents issued in the UAE and going abroad, the starting point depends on your set-up. Mainland companies usually begin at the Chamber of Commerce, while free-zone companies start with their free-zone authority. From there, both routes move through MOFA and then the destination country’s embassy or consulate. We confirm the right starting point for your specific licence before we begin, so the document isn’t rejected later for skipping a step.
