Canada Certificate Attestation in Dubai, UAE

Heading from Canada to the UAE for work, study, or family? Your Canadian documents need to be attested before any UAE authority will accept them. Canada now issues apostilles too — but there is an important catch for the UAE. Here is what to know.

Canada certificate attestation is the official legalisation that makes a Canadian-issued document legally valid in the UAE. It moves through provincial authentication, Global Affairs Canada, the UAE Embassy in Ottawa, and the final MOFA stamp in the UAE.

Canada is a federal system, so the first step depends on the province that issued your document — we confirm the right provincial authority before we begin.

What is Canadian certificate attestation?

Important: a Canadian apostille is not enough. Canada joined the Hague Apostille Convention in January 2024 and now issues apostilles. But the UAE is not a member — so a Canadian apostille alone is not accepted here. UAE Embassy (Ottawa) attestation and the final MOFA UAE stamp must still follow.

Why a Canadian apostille does not work on its own here

Since January 2024 Canadian documents can carry an apostille, which is excellent for Hague destinations. The UAE, however, is not a Hague member, so an apostille on its own is not treated as final legalisation here.

An apostilled or authenticated Canadian document still needs UAE Embassy (Ottawa) attestation followed by the MOFA UAE stamp. For degrees, an official sealed transcript usually has to be sent directly from your Canadian university to the UAE Embassy in Ottawa — we guide you through this so nothing is rejected.

Why do you need it?

  • Employment and Golden Visas — degrees and experience letters for work permits and residency
  • Family sponsorship — marriage and birth certificates for dependants
  • University and school admission — transcripts and diplomas for study in the UAE
  • Professional licensing — for regulated fields such as healthcare and engineering
  • Business setup — corporate documents and powers of attorney

How does the process work?

  • Provincial authentication — by the relevant provincial authority (for example Ontario Official Documents Services).
  • Global Affairs Canada — federal authentication, including apostille where required.
  • UAE Embassy attestation (Ottawa) — the embassy applies the official UAE stamp. For degrees a sealed transcript is often sent here directly by the university.
  • MOFA attestation (UAE) — the final legalisation here in the UAE.

Which Canadian documents can we attest?

  • Educational — degrees, diplomas, transcripts and professional memberships
  • Personal / civil — birth and marriage certificates, divorce decrees, police clearance and power of attorney
  • Commercial — articles of incorporation, board resolutions and certificates of good standing

Do your Canadian documents need an Arabic translation?

Arabic is the official language of the UAE, so many government departments and courts also ask for a certified Arabic legal translation once your Canadian document is attested. This must be produced by a translator approved by the UAE Ministry of Justice — a standard or machine translation will not be accepted. We can arrange the certified translation alongside attestation, so your document arrives ready to submit in one go.

Who needs Canadian attestation?

Canadian nationals and UAE residents who studied or lived in Canada, professionals relocating on a UAE work permit, families sponsoring dependants, students enrolling in UAE institutions, and entrepreneurs or investors registering Canadian corporate documents here all need it. If a Canadian document has to be trusted by a UAE authority, it needs the full chain.

How long does it take?

As an indicative guide, most Canadian attestations take around 15–22 working days. The exact time depends on the document type, whether notarisation or translation is required, and current embassy and MOFA workloads. Send us your document on WhatsApp and we will confirm a realistic timeline before you commit.

Avoid these common mistakes

  • Assuming the apostille is enough — for UAE use it never is; UAE Embassy and MOFA steps still apply.
  • Name mismatches — differences between your passport and certificate can cause rejection; tell us early so we can advise.
  • Skipping the Arabic translation — many UAE bodies require it after attestation.
  • Leaving it late — the chain spans two countries, so start as soon as you accept an offer or set a deadline.
