Full Legalization of French Documents for UAE Acceptance
France is a long-standing signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention (1965), which often creates confusion among applicants. While an Apostille is sufficient for many countries, the UAE is not a member of the Hague Convention. As a result, an Apostille alone is not valid for use in the UAE.
French documents must therefore undergo a full, multi-stage legalization process, beginning in France and concluding with UAE authorities.
French Legalization Process
Step 1: Local Verification (France)
- Personal & educational documents are authenticated by a French Notary Public
- Commercial documents are verified by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI)
Step 2: French Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Paris
The Ministry applies a legalization stamp authenticating the notary or CCI seal (not an Apostille).
Step 3: UAE Embassy Attestation – Paris
The UAE Embassy verifies the French Foreign Ministry seal and applies its diplomatic legalization stamp.
Step 4: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) – UAE
Final legalization within the UAE, rendering the document valid for visas, employment, or licensing.
