MOFA Attestation
MOFA Attestation
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), also known as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC), serves as the official link between the leadership of the UAE and the international community. The Ministry oversees UAE embassies abroad, manages diplomatic relations, and enters into bilateral agreements with other countries.
In addition to its diplomatic responsibilities, MOFA is authorized to verify and attest documents issued both inside and outside the UAE. This process confirms the authenticity of the signatures and official stamps on documents.
Why is MOFA Attestation Required?
MOFA attestation is required to legalize documents for official use in the UAE or abroad. It is commonly needed for:
- Educational certificates
- Marriage certificates
- Birth certificates
- Commercial documents
- Other personal or professional documents
The primary purpose of MOFA attestation is to authenticate foreign documents so they are legally recognized by UAE authorities.
Process of MOFA Attestation in the UAE
- The document must first be notarized and attested by the relevant authorities in the country of origin (if issued abroad).
- The document is then submitted to MOFA in the UAE for final attestation.
- MOFA verifies the document and applies its official stamp.
In certain cases, especially for employment or visa purposes, additional attestation may be required from the relevant embassy or consulate in the UAE.
If the UAE does not have an embassy in the document’s country of origin, the document must be attested by that country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Similarly, if the country concerned has no embassy in the UAE, documents must be authenticated by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs accredited to the UAE.
